Who Want’s to be a Millionaire?

Who Wants to Be a Millionaire slot machine

It's the quiz that's so famous they made a film about it and with the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire slot, it's a chance for you to get involved. Developed by Scientific Games, this officially licensed slot is spread across six reels, as it deploys the Megaways™ feature, meaning there are a mind-boggling 117,649 ways to win. The million-pound question is not if but when you will play this fantastic slot?

  • WILDS: Yes
  • RTP: 96.24%

Hot Seat Free Spins Gamble

With so many ways to win and such high-value cash prizes on offer—just like the show!—we can let Scientific Gaming off for not packing this slot full of bonus features. Thankfully, the one standout feature that is present is a corker and does a great job of weaving aspects from the real quiz show into this slot.

Free Spins can be earned by landing three of the game logo scatter symbols, which will earn you eight free spins. These scatter symbols can stack on the same reel, with the maximum number you can land being eight. However, the Hot Seat Free Spins bonus game is triggered by landing over three scatters, with up to a total of 50 free spins on offer.

The bonus game imitates the question and lifeline system used the TV show, with players choosing one of four answers and climbing up the free spins ladder with each correct answer. Again, just like the show, you can choose to walk away with your winnings at any point, or—and this is where the gamble comes in—you can keep playing. There are various safety points as you move up the ladder, just like with the shower, and you also receive the lifelines too.

At the start of the round, a second screen will appear with your free spins ladder and the three lifelines: phone a friend, 50:50 and ask the audience. At the bottom of the screen are four answers – A, B, C, and D – as well as your ‘walk away’ and a ‘final answer’ buttons. One of the lifelines will be randomly chosen and have the relative effect, e.g. 50:50 will leave you with only two answers to choose from etc.

Either you walk away, or you must press ‘final answer’; if you get the correct answer, then you will advance up the ladder; if not, you will either drop to the last safety point you reached or lose or all your progress.

The round ends once a wrong answer is selected and it awards the free spins according to the ladder. Lastly, during the free spins, there is an unlimited multiplier which increases after each winning answer. More free spins can be won during this feature too by landing additional scatters appear – these will appear on the extra row below the main reels and, once again, can see you earn up to 50 free spins.

Visuals & Paytable

Once again, this is a fully licensed game, so the visuals are just like on the show itself. From the neon lights that line the studio, to the rows of seats that overlook the contestant, it does create a real sense of authenticity.

On the other hand, the reels and symbols that are displayed on top of this background do seem slightly out of place – standard design for most Megaways™ slots – however, they still feel recognisable among classic casino and online slots. In addition to the standard card values, you have various jewels, a scatter symbol (the game logo) and a wild symbol represented as a question mark.

As well as the great number of paylines, there is also the highly fun Hot Seat Free Spins Gamble feature, as well as a TV-worthy top prize of 50,000x your total stake up for grabs. All in all, this is a game that lives up to it’s TV reputation and creates an atmosphere that is just as tense and exciting. We had a huge amount of fun with this slot – the only thing we were missing was Chris Tarrant’s iconic hosting (we’re old school, we’ll leave Jeremy Clarkson to someone else!).

Megaways™ Feature

As a Megaways™ slot, there are some differences in how this slot machine is set up: not only can each of the primary reels vary between four and seven rows, but there is also an additional dynamic row displayed below the main game board. This row contains additional symbols to either complete or increase the number of matches you land on each spin, adding yet another layer of complexity on top of the plentiful paylines.
