Free bingo adopted by police
It may sound unlikely but police truncheons are giving way to free bingo cards in south-west England.
Police community support officers (PCSOs) in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset have been busy handing out free bingo tickets to sheltered accommodation residents for a scheme called Crime Reduction Bingo, reports the Weston & Somerset Mercury.
But these cards are likely to be unrecognisable to most fans of the game for starters, players mark off words instead of numbers.
Numbers game turns to words
In Crime Reduction Bingo, an officer stands at the front of the room and reads out questions such as 'what should you always ask for before inviting someone into your home?'
Bingo players then mark off the correct answers in this case, 'ID' and the winner is the first person to complete their free bingo ticket.
PCSO Kylie Stevens said the idea behind the project was to encourage people to remember the importance of putting safety first "in a fun and informal way".
"So far, the bingo sessions have turned into a real social event as there has been a great turnout and everyone really enjoyed themselves," she added.
"We have been really well received and everyone is really grateful for the more serious advice we were able to provide to keep them safe."
While you wait for Bucky Bingo's regular online bingo sessions to start, have you thought about playing our fabulous bingo bonus games?
Cops N Robbers has a fun law-and-order theme as you'd expect, badges, panda cars and swag bags feature heavily.
Or for a glimpse of the criminal underworld there's Mafia Millions, where all you have to do is line up safes, mob bosses and blacked-out gangster cars on win lines.
