Helping ramblers on the Pennine Way
The Midlands has some of the most challenging treks in the country from the Pennine Way to Kinder Scout.
Unfortunately, it's a fact of life that some ramblers will hurt themselves or fall seriously ill while they're in the middle of nowhere.
But in the coming days, those that run into trouble will have good reason to thank bingo and a couple of enterprising pensioners from Leicestershire.
That's because Essie Wilmot and her friend Janet Kerr have just donated £2,500 to the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance (DLRAA), which they raised via monthly charity bingo games last year, reports the Melton Times.
Their bingo sessions have proved to be a huge hit with the people of Leicestershire and another one has been pencilled in for the Melton Mowbray Working Men's Club, Norman Way on Thursday, January 14th 2009.

However, modest Essie explained that she would not be able to keep going without the support of other residents.
"It's a lot of hard work but it's worth it," she added. "The air ambulance is a fantastic charity."
Meanwhile, Barbara Parish, regional fundraising manager of the DLRAA, has paid tribute to the ongoing efforts of the charity bingo organisers.
"We are delighted Essie and Janet have continued to support the air ambulance," she said. "The wonderful donation will help us to keep our life-saving service operational."
Last month, Bucky Bingo reported on another pair of selfless charity bingo organisers.
Phyllis and Jim Martin, a married couple living in Staffordshire, have been staging around three bingo nights per year since 1964.
Over the course of the last four and a half decades, they raised the breathtaking sum of £130,000 for good causes.
