Bingo targets London fashionistas
It's no secret that free online bingo has brought the numbers game to the masses but a wacky new club wants to give it a more exclusive edge.
The Underground Rebel Bingo Club, a group that has developed a cult following around Shoreditch in London, is deliberately targeting trendy young fashionistas.
Many elements of the Underground Rebel Bingo Club will be familiar to traditional and online bingo lovers from the quirky calls to the strong emphasis on socialising.
Not your average free bingo experience
However, some aspects are very different. For example, when two people call house at the same time, the winner is the first one to race to the front and hug the MC.
There is also a long-standing tradition that all visible clothing gets covered in pen as the night wears on.
Charlie Partridge, co-organiser of the Underground Rebel Bingo Club, explained why secrecy is an essential part of this bingo experience.
"What makes it fun is buying into the story of the evening," he said. "You've got to buy into the reality of the secret organisation.
"It's for people who like noise and above all for people who like bingo."
Bucky Bingo recently reported on another event that gives bingo an edgy appeal.
Cosmic Bingo, a weekly fixture at the Seminole Casino in Hollywood, features a fluorescent dress code and dance-offs between players with winning bingo tickets.
