What did online bingo players make of Royal Ascot 2010?
Another Royal Ascot has been and gone, but our online bingo forums are still open for those of you who want to dissect every fashion faux pas.
Royal Ascot has long been a staple of the fashion calendar. Forget the horses, it's always more fun to watch the parade of eccentric hats and see just how far the VIP guests push the strict Royal Enclosure dress code. But with the high street becoming just as fashion-conscious as designer labels, to what extent were this year's races overwhelmed by Cheryl Cole lookalikes?
Royal Ascot fashions
The fact is that there are two sides to Royal Ascot. On the one hand, we get fantastic fascinators and classy clutches. But, on the other hand, we get a parade of wannabe WAGs in barely-there dresses each trying to notch up more tabloid column inches than their peers.
Even those that play it safe can't escape the fashion firing line. Barbara Horspool, New Look design director, probably echoed the thoughts of many bingo fans when she told the Independent:
"I don't have a problem with the Ascot dress code. But I just wish the clothes were more original. Everyone seems to wear the same Cheryl Cole-esque dress and a fascinator. There are rows and rows of bloody fascinators."
Fashion Queen
So what outfits worked best this year? Who was the Royal Ascot fashion idol? For Kate Fox, social anthropologist, no one does it better than Queen Elizabeth herself whose consistently classy 50s style puts "the herds of street-sheep and their haute-couture imitators" to shame. And as is traditional, the Queen rolled up in a horse-drawn carriage after the other guests had arrived how's that for making an entrance?!
Now the dust has settled on Royal Ascot 2010, online bingo players can get back down to the serious business of playing their favourite numbers game. Perhaps they could even spend their winnings on an outrageously flamboyant hat? As long as it's not a fascinator.
