Free bingo games in the offing
Young and old are being brought together with a game of free bingo in Devon.
Members of a youth club called the Dreamscheme Dynamos are meeting up with the the Landsdowne Over 50s Community Group at Mid Devon Indoor Bowls on Wednesday, December 23rd 2009, reports the Mid Devon Star.
They'll be playing a few lines of free bingo while munching on festive treats like mince pies, nuts and cocktail sausages.
Both groups were only set up earlier this year and the event will celebrate the impact they have already made locally.
The community groups
The Dreamscheme Dynamos completed a week-long community project in the summer holidays that saw them litter picking, planting pots, creating a mural and learning about recycling and baking.
Meanwhile, the Landsdowne Over 50s Community Group has liaised with councillors, housing experts and police community support officers to achieve results on the ground.
A council spokesperson explained: "The group meets monthly at Mid Devon Indoor Bowls to discuss local issues.
"They do have fun as well, which includes having games of bingo, quizzes and monthly raffles.
"Since May, the group has set up a Neighbourhood Watch in the area and have become a closer community."
Bingo games are often used to bridge the generation gap.
Earlier this year, for example, eight junior wardens in Cheshire visited a local retirement home as part of a community outreach programme.
Aged between eight and 11, the children took part in a special games day that included a fun free bingo session.
