Hollywood bad boy takes on vigilante role
Hollywood actor and onetime bingo-caller Russell Crowe is set to star in the new film version of 80s television show The Equalizer. Crowe will play the part of the former secret agent Robert McCall, first popularised by Edward Woodward in 1985.
Though not many details are known about the film so far, it has been revealed that it will be released in 2011 and headed up by CSI:NY director David Von Ancken. Crowe, who has also just starred in Ridley Scott's box office hit Robin Hood, was nominated for an Oscar three times before winning 'Best Actor' for Gladiator in 2001 as well as a BAFTA for 'Best Actor in a Leading Role' for A Beautiful Mind.
Bingo mad
While we may all be familiar with Russell Crowe the movie star, it might come as a surprise to bingo fans that the actor loves our favourite game just as much as we do! It seems that his love for bingo grew from his days working as a bingo caller, a job he took in his native New Zealand but was fired from when he couldnt resist making some cheeky alterations to the traditional calls. "Russell used ruder versions of the bingo calls," said his sister-in-law about his bingo days.
"His bosses failed to see the funny side and booted him out, but he says he always checks to see where the local venue is when he moves somewhere new."
Not only does Russell love a good bingo game, he's getting everyone he knows involved as well; he even got his wife hooked while she was pregnant.
As obviously bingo mad as they are, we wouldn't be surprised if the Crowes haven't made the most of Bucky Bingo's great games whenever they pop over to the UK!
