Charity bingo night planned
A son is planning to stage a charity bingo game to raise money for people suffering from the same medical problems as his mother.
Matt Wintle, who lives in Hillcrest in Devon, has organised a bingo night at nearby Otter Nurseries on Wednesday, August 19 2009 as a fundraiser for the National Stroke Association.
His mother Brenda suffered a stroke five years ago that left her disabled, reports the Sidmouth Herald. And the 32 year old hopes the bingo game will add to the £1,000 he expects to raise by cycling from London to Paris in September 2009.
Bingo has strong charity links
Bingo has a lengthy track record of supporting good causes. Earlier this month, the Welsh town of Newtown in Powys hosted a charity bingo game organised by relatives of 16-year-old Lucinda Price.
All proceeds from the event were donated to Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool, which was where Ms Price underwent life-saving surgery as a baby.
Buckingham Bingo, the UK's largest independent bingo club operator, understands the importance of giving something back to the community.
Last month, it announced that it had signed a groundbreaking two-year partnership with leading cancer charity Breakthrough for Breast Cancer.
The official fundraising week is scheduled to take place from October 18 2009, although there will be many charitable events taking place outside this period.
Buckingham Bingo has set itself a target of raising £20,000 for the non-profit organisation in the first 12 months.
In addition to charity bingo games, sponsored walks and other themed events are planned to help meet the ambitious target.
