Bingo games top the bill
A bingo game bonanza topped the bill at a recent showbiz fundraiser.
The Spa Complex in Scarborough played host to a celebrity-filled lunch that featured a bingo session, an auction and a raffle, reports the Scarborough Evening News.
It raised thousands of pounds for good causes, although the exact figure is still rising as more and more donations are collected.
The long-running gala showpiece was compered by Tony Peers a local actor, comedian and founder of entertainment company Tony Peers Productions who even helped out with the bingo games.
Charities benefit from star-studded event
Wynne Shearme, organiser of the showbiz lunch, has so far been able to give £1,000 to Marie Curie Cancer Care and an identical amount to the Richard Fox Memorial Fund.
A further donation will be made in due course to the Grand Order of Water Rats, a celebrity fundraising group.
"We were so pleased with the amount raised," said Ms Shearme. "It never ceases to amaze me that Scarborough is so generous we're really thrilled.
"Everyone enjoyed the luncheon the atmosphere was really jolly and it was one of the best I've been involved in."
Meanwhile, Cheryl Barret from Marie Curie Cancer Care said the charity was "absolutely thrilled" to have been selected as a beneficiary and described the amount raised as a "wonderful sum of money".
Members of the audience who got a taste for bingo at the showbiz event may be interested to know Buckingham Bingo's flagship club in the north-east can be found in Peterlee.
