Half a century of Corrie
Britain's favourite soap Coronation Street is celebrating its 50th anniversary this week with a week of high drama and big-budget stunts. However, the Royal Mint has also decided to mark the special occasion by producing a range of commemorative gold coins.
One coin will depict the Rover's Return pub, and another five will feature iconic Corrie couples. The lucky characters to be immortalised include:
Coronation Street executive producer Kieran Roberts said: "It's a genuine honour. The characters on the medals have been immortalised in a way normally reserved for kings, queens and historical icons. Vera and Hilda would be over the moon".
Corrie's biggest bingo fan
It's Vera Duckworth we'll be looking out for, as the much-loved character enjoyed a good game of bingo. During her 34 years in the soap she was a frequent player, and in one of her last ever episodes she and devoted husband Jack went up to Blackpool where she had a whale of a time at a bingo hall. In November 2010, the couple were reunited when Jack died and shared a final dance, seeing Corrie fans and Bucky players across the land shedding a little tear over their cuppa.
It's easy to imagine that Vera Duckworth would have loved Bucky Bingo, or perhaps our land-based Buckingham Bingo clubs. Our range of free bingo and penny bingo games would go down a treat with any Street legend, combining a great bargain with a great laugh.
