Swine flu centre to stage bingo games again
Cheshire pensioners are celebrating after learning that a community hall taken over by medical workers will revert to hosting bingo games.
Last month, the Senior Citizens Hall on Duke Street in Macclesfield was turned into a swine flu vaccine distribution centre without prior warning, reports the Macclesfield Express.
It meant the regular bingo sessions were put on hold indefinitely and players had to choose between looking further afield or playing online bingo at home.
However, demand for Tamiflu antiviral drugs has remained well below expectations so the Central and Eastern Cheshire Primary Care Trust has closed its operation at the centre and will instead distribute vaccines through 30 local pharmacies.
Return of bingo given thumbs up
One person thrilled by that decision is Dorothy Worrall from Moss Square in Macclesfield.
Ms Worrall and her sister were regular fixtures at the Duke Street bingo games but neither has played since its closure.
She said: "My sister has told me to get my glad rags ready again. I've been told that only three people turned up for the flu vaccine - I don't know how true that is. Bingo is a lot more popular than that.
Currently, the advice being given to people affected by swine flu is to stay at home, which might make a trip to the local bingo club a bit tricky.
