Rio Ferdinand spearheads staycation trend
Most online bingo fans would agree Rio Ferdinand is a rather unlikely figurehead for the staycation.
But the millionaire Manchester United defender, who broke the British transfer record when he moved for £29.1 million in July 2002, has nevertheless just been spotted in a caravan park in north Wales.
Late last month, Rio surprised everybody when he was spotted day-tripping at Presthaven Sands Holiday Park in Prestatyn, where he spent some quality time with fiancée Rebecca Ellison and their two young sons, reports the BBC.
"He really seemed to enjoy himself," said a spokesman for Haven Holidays, after admitting they had no idea he was planning to visit.
"We were delighted that he and his family chose to come and enjoy themselves at Presthaven."
Did Rio dabble in some bingo?
The England star tried his hand at go-karting and even visited his fiancée's £400 caravan, although there is alas no word on whether he also took part in one of the park's regular bingo game sessions.
He joins a growing number of people choosing to use their home as a convenient base for day-tripping instead of going overseas on big-money holidays, a trend dubbed the staycation.
According to figures from the RAC, 2009 will see twice as many Britons going on a staycation in a change that could even have ramifications for online bingo sites like Bucky Bingo.
Some 37 million people, sixth tenths of the population, are expected to holiday from home this year with the survey suggesting less money, bad weather and rising petrol charges are the top three reasons.
That means British online bingo players will be spending more time at home and they'll undoubtedly be looking for a bit of escapism to help them unwind.
And what better way to have some fun than playing a few bingo bonus games? Although sadly we can't promise you'll meet Rio!
