Kilimanjaro looms on the horizon
What do Kilimanjaro, Everest and Snowdon have in common?
Well, all three are being climbed by members of the bingo community to raise money for good causes.
The latest person with a mountainous task in front of her is Oxfordshire resident Miss Ali Smith, who plans to tackle Kilimanjaro in June 2010, reports the Witney Gazette.
She is hoping to raise £4,000 for the Mick Smith Tribute Fund, which was set up to help lung cancer sufferers following the untimely death of her father.
First though she needs to raise some money to pay for the trip so she is holding a series of charity bingo nights across the county.
Bingo club employees target Everest
As if climbing the tallest mountain in Africa wasn't enough, another group of intrepid adventurers set their sights on an even tougher task last month - the tallest mountain in the world.
A group of British bingo club employees decided to climb Everest to raise money for the national charity Sue Ryder Care, which helps people with chronic and terminal health complaints.
Having reached the roof of the world, the adventurers even planned to play a decidedly chilly free bingo game.
Buckingham Bingo scales Snowdon
Meanwhile, Buckingham Bingo Huyton staff conquered the tallest mountain in Wales recently.
Employees at the branch, including manager David Rhodes, climbed Snowdon on September 26th 2009 to raise funds for Breakthrough for Breast Cancer.
It was all part of Buckingham Bingo's efforts to raise £20,000 for the cancer charity in the first year of a two-year partnership.
