We won't use the number 4 though the number of years England will have to wait before we go through this all over again!

A bingo fan in Haringey celebrated a very special birthday recently. Lydia Clark turned 100 and invited some of her bingo hall pals to a party which was also attended by Haringey Mayor Eddie Griffiths. The Mayor was kind enough to present her with a specially-embossed set of whisky tumblers. It just goes to show that bingo really does span all ages, despite a recent report claiming that bingo players were on average getting younger.

The average age of a bingo player in the UK has fallen drastically over the last twenty years, it has been found. According to research from bingo comparison website OnlineBingoClub.co.uk, there is a 34-year age difference between the players marking their cards in 1990 and the players of today. Possible reasons behind this phenomenon could be the increase in internet connectivity in homes, meaning younger net-literate players can now play for cash prizes at home.

Alistair Darling has overlooked the issue of bingo tax in today's budget. There was speculation that the chancellor would return gross profit tax to 15 per cent or at least drop it by a couple of points. Instead, it seems that bingo club duty will be held at 20 per cent for the foreseeable future. This is likely to disappoint the I'm Backing Bingo campaign group, which enjoys the support of countless players and UK operators like Buckingham Bingo.

Traditional clubs give players the opportunity to meet up with friends and play for huge cash prizes like the £25,000 National Bingo Game and £50,000 Bucky Bullseye. In Rugby, meanwhile, a lady has just scooped a £135,000 jackpot at her local bingo club.

The Oscars are almost upon us. Will Jeff Bridges win Best Actor? Will Sandra Bullock claim Best Actress? And will Hurt Locker fight off Avatar to scoop Best Picture? As a result, we've decided to hold our own awards ceremony to celebrate the cream of the crop in the world of bingo bonus games.

Online bingo players with a sentimental streak may be pleased to hear that Paddington Bear is back where he belongs. Namely, eating marmalade on our screens. The world's most famous marmalade fan has been snapped up to promote Robertson's Golden Shred after a brief flirtation with Marmite. He's just one of many cartoon characters to become brand mascots. Postman Pat, Popeye and of course our very own Matt Bucky have all proved to be immensely popular figureheads.

Online bingo chat rooms have been alive with chatter this week about a certain Cheryl Cole. As if you didn't know already, our favourite X Factor judge has just separated from husband Ashley. It seems as if Cheryl has finally had enough of the Chelsea and England footballer after two years of exposes about his alleged infidelities. She may be feeling a bit down right now, but at least a series of good omens in the bingo balls provide some crumbs of comfort.
(Friday 22nd of January 2010)

He only opened an online bingo account 40 minutes earlier.

Having reached triple figures, Cecily is also perfectly placed to divulge the secrets of a long life.

Best of all, you don't even have to leave your front room.

An exciting new craze is sweeping the nation. Inspired by the rave scene of the 1980s, Rebel Bingo is truly a bingo night like no other. Up to 2,000 young people rock out to Black Sabbath, go mad with multi-coloured dabbers and play a few lines of bingo. Despite the huge attendances, all advertising is frowned upon. Bingo fans can only find out about the next event through word-of mouth, emails, phone calls and texts.

Yesterday, chancellor Alistair Darling announced during the pre-budget report that bingo club duty would be lowered from 22 per cent to 20 per cent. It's the latest twist in a turbulent year for the industry - prior to April, gross profit tax stood at just 15 per cent. The Bingo Association, the trade body for bingo clubs in the UK, has welcomed the cuts but warned they still don't go far enough and pledged to keep fighting.

After the excitement around Rio Ferdinand's unlikely trip to Prestatyn, it now appears that another Manchester footballer has had a brush with bingo. Nedum Onuoha, a Nigerian defender who plays for Manchester City, was the star name at a recent event in the City of Manchester Stadium. The Premiership player took on the role of celebrity bingo caller during a tea dance organised by the Manchester club's registered charity City in the Community.

There's plenty of anecdotal evidence to suggest that more and more players are turning to online bingo. Now, an official study from the Gambling Commission has provided some hard facts and figures that will surely be of interest to new bingo converts. According to the public body, an average of 10.6 per cent of adults took part in remote gambling in the previous month in 2009. This is up from 9.7 per cent last year and just 8.8 per cent in 2007.
(Tuesday 24th of November 2009)
There are plenty of parallels between bingo games and classrooms, according to a light-hearted article from a secondary school teacher. Gill Pyatt works as a maths tutor in Gloucester and also helps out as bingo caller at a local homeless shelter. She noted that both groups are distinctly territorial when it comes to getting the best seats. Moreover, bingo game players act like class prefects by handing out the pens and winners face a boisterous atmosphere reminiscent of the playground.

It's the tallest mountain in Africa. But one plucky woman plans to climb Kilimanjaro to raise £4,000 for the charity set up in memory of her late father. Of course, the trip itself won't be cheap so she has organised a series of bingo nights to raise the necessary funds. There has been a spate of mountain-climbing escapades recently. British bingo club employees recently took on Everest to fundraise for Sue Ryder Care, while staff at Buckingham Bingo Huyton climbed Snowdon to support Breakthrough for Breast Cancer.
(Sunday 25th of October 2009)
A new report suggests online bingo is continuing to grow regardless of the recession. The study, published by Ernst & Young, noted that operators are investing heavily in online bingo to improve the playing experience. It's thought that many people are turning to online bingo as it offers a "fun, cost-effective" alternative to traditional hobbies. The report concluded that the bingo industry was on course to emerge stronger as the economic recovery gathers pace.

Trinny is one of the most popular presenters on TV. But sparks have been flying ever since she took her first fledgling steps into the bingo world on primetime ITV series Seven Days on the Breadline. The fashionista, who admitted she was scared about visiting her first bingo club, questioned whether somebody living on benefits could afford to play. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Mirror, the Sunday Mercury and the blogosphere have criticised the show and Trinny in particular.
(Wednesday 14th of October 2009)
How can you smash the record for the world's highest bingo game? Climb Mount Everest, of course. An intrepid team of bingo club employees plan to follow in the footsteps of Sir Edmund Hillary and scale the world's tallest mountain. It's all part of a year-long campaign to raise £1 million for the charity Sue Ryder Care. Last month, employees at Buckingham Bingo Huyton embarked on their own epic charity adventure by climbing Mount Snowdon, the tallest mountain in Wales.

Many online bingo players are so focussed on scooping the jackpot that they never pause to consider what they'd actually spend it on. Perhaps you'd take the sensible option and top up your ISA or refurbish your home? Or maybe, like one Leeds-based online bingo fan, you'd book an extravagant three-week holiday to Las Vegas? It's worth remembering you can win some serious amounts of cash at Bucky Bingo. So what would you do with an online bingo jackpot?
(Tuesday 22nd of September 2009)
It is beyond dispute that online bingo has attracted many young first-time players. But here at Bucky Bingo, we recognise that the numbers game still enjoys a phenomenal level of support from the older generation. We want to pay tribute to a couple of these mature players, Anne and Nell. Anne is 102 years old and a loyal member of Buckingham Bingo Bradford, where she recently hit the headlines by having a chat with Philip Davies MP.

A growing number of plays are devoting themselves to the exciting world of bingo games. Later this month, Strictly Bingo will recreate a bingo session for London theatregoers while this summer has also seen an innovative Manchester production of Everybody Loves a Winner, which incorporated a real free bingo game. While it's clear that bingo is experiencing a cultural revival of unprecedented proportions, there is only one question on everybody's lips. When will bingo star on Broadway?

Bucky Bingo is a proud supporter of the campaign to keep bingo duty at 15 per cent instead of the 22 per cent proposed by Chancellor Alistair Darling. So far, a Downing Street petition has gained more than 2,500 signatures as word continues to spread among loyal bingo fans. Now, two MPs have voiced their support for the 'I'm Backing Bingo' campaign. The Liberal Democrat MPs for Romsey and Edinburgh West have talked about the importance of bingo to local communities.
