A bingo fan in Haringey celebrated a very special birthday recently. Lydia Clark turned 100 and invited some of her bingo hall pals to a party which was also attended by Haringey Mayor Eddie Griffiths. The Mayor was kind enough to present her with a specially-embossed set of whisky tumblers. It just goes to show that bingo really does span all ages, despite a recent report claiming that bingo players were on average getting younger.

Alistair Darling has overlooked the issue of bingo tax in today's budget. There was speculation that the chancellor would return gross profit tax to 15 per cent or at least drop it by a couple of points. Instead, it seems that bingo club duty will be held at 20 per cent for the foreseeable future. This is likely to disappoint the I'm Backing Bingo campaign group, which enjoys the support of countless players and UK operators like Buckingham Bingo.

An exciting new craze is sweeping the nation. Inspired by the rave scene of the 1980s, Rebel Bingo is truly a bingo night like no other. Up to 2,000 young people rock out to Black Sabbath, go mad with multi-coloured dabbers and play a few lines of bingo. Despite the huge attendances, all advertising is frowned upon. Bingo fans can only find out about the next event through word-of mouth, emails, phone calls and texts.

After the excitement around Rio Ferdinand's unlikely trip to Prestatyn, it now appears that another Manchester footballer has had a brush with bingo. Nedum Onuoha, a Nigerian defender who plays for Manchester City, was the star name at a recent event in the City of Manchester Stadium. The Premiership player took on the role of celebrity bingo caller during a tea dance organised by the Manchester club's registered charity City in the Community.

It's the tallest mountain in Africa. But one plucky woman plans to climb Kilimanjaro to raise £4,000 for the charity set up in memory of her late father. Of course, the trip itself won't be cheap so she has organised a series of bingo nights to raise the necessary funds. There has been a spate of mountain-climbing escapades recently. British bingo club employees recently took on Everest to fundraise for Sue Ryder Care, while staff at Buckingham Bingo Huyton climbed Snowdon to support Breakthrough for Breast Cancer.

How can you smash the record for the world's highest bingo game? Climb Mount Everest, of course. An intrepid team of bingo club employees plan to follow in the footsteps of Sir Edmund Hillary and scale the world's tallest mountain. It's all part of a year-long campaign to raise £1 million for the charity Sue Ryder Care. Last month, employees at Buckingham Bingo Huyton embarked on their own epic charity adventure by climbing Mount Snowdon, the tallest mountain in Wales.

Anne is 102 years old and a loyal member of Buckingham Bingo Bradford, where she recently hit the headlines by having a chat with Philip Davies MP.
